I was greatly inspired by the civil rights progressive moments of the 1960s. Especially the hippie-ish culture of the Vietnam Protests. The flowers and theme of flowers were greatly inspired by the rap group De La Soul’s flower symbol which was often found on posters and album cover artwork. I thought that flower resembled the entire essence of the 60s as a whole.

'Static' by Quentin Johnson

'Static' by Quentin Johnson

The entire piece is based off the theme of paranoia, and the static-like feeling of a being mentally and emotionally still but quick to switch and spark like choppy radio static. I did my best to implement the theme of static by adding TVs and using Unstable line work.

'Hog Hurlin’ Panther Punk' by Quentin Johnson

'Hog Hurlin’ Panther Punk' by Quentin Johnson

The theme of this piece is pretty much Pan-Africanism and the Black Panther Party, and The Punk Movement. The punk man in front of the wall is holding the signature Spear and Rifle which commonly reference the Black Panther Party.
